a.      TO BE (was) digunakan untuk subjek / dan bentuk ketiga tunggal (he, she, it)

b.      TO BE (ewre) digunakan untuk subjek you, we, they, dan subjek berbentuk plural.

Penggunaan

·         Menyatakan kegiatan yang sedag berlangsung pada waktu tertentu pada masa lalu. contoh:

(+) I was watching TV at 7 o’clock last night

(-)  I was not watching TV at 7 o’clock last night

(?) was i watching TV at 7 o’clock last night?

·         Menyatakan kegiatan yang sedang berlangsung pada waktu lampau saat kegiatan lain terjadi. Contoh:

(+) my mother was cooking when the phone rang

(+) i was listening to the music when the lamp went off

(+) they were studying when the man came

·         Menyatakan dua kegiatan berlangsung bersamaan pada waktu lampau. Contoh:

(+) while i was typing  letter, Rina was reading it

(+) they were playing basketball when i was reading a novel
